About Us

Model United Nations Development Organization (MUNDO) is an educational social enterprise that develops Model United Nations educational programs and curriculum. Over the years, MUNDO has developed the Chicago International Model United Nations (CIMUN) as one of the fastest growing and most innovative conferences in North America. In the off season, MUNDO works with teachers to bring challenging educational political simulations to students from elementary school to high school.

MUNDO has become known as developer of boutique programs, setting trends in the global Model UN community. We are happy to excited to shift our gears and bring to the collegiate Model UN community an innovative conference of the highest standard.

Our History

MUNDO was founded in 2004 as the Chicago International Model United Nations, a registered student organization at the University of Illinois – Chicago (UIC). After two years as a UIC organization, CIMUN became an independent organization. What was a small 150 delegates conference, CIMUN 2010 marked the 7th annual conference. Since the inaugural CIMUN, the conference has quadrupled its delegate count, and is the preferred Model UN conference among Chicago-area high schools.

MUNDO has worked with teachers in North America and Asia to develop international relations curriculum for the classroom. Most memorable of our experiences was our year with Mrs. Musselman’s 4th grade class at the Horace Mann School in Oak Park!

The Global Futures Model of Experiential Education

All of our programs follow the MUNDO model of educational political simulation, which differs significantly from most Model UN conferences. We emphasize realistic simulation, and delegates accurately portraying their country’s perspectives. Most conferences use “consensus building” as a measure of success for students, even when (for example) delegations like Iran and Israel end up unrealistically co-sponsoring resolutions. It is the philosophy of all our conferences to teach students how the world really is, not just how the world should be. Individual wits and preparation, but also team cohesion and coordination across committees, are viewed very highly by our staff.

International Relations Curriculum Consulting

MUNDO occasionally works with teachers to develop customized international relations programs, or to improve existing curriculum. Our clients range from the university to primary-school levels.
